Copyright and attribution
The sources ZohaNur uses, who owns them, and how to raise a claim.
ZohaNur includes work created by others. This page records what is included and under what basis. If something here is wrong, we want to hear about it โ see raising a claim below.
Quran text#
The Arabic text of the Quran is not subject to copyright. The specific digital editions used โ Uthmani, IndoPak, Naskh and Tajweed-annotated โ are drawn from published digital corpora, and the source of each is credited within the app.
Translations#
Translations of the Quran are copyrighted works belonging to their translators and publishers. ZohaNur includes only editions that are in the public domain or made available for free non-commercial distribution, and each is credited by translator name in the app.
Hadith collections#
The classical collections are not copyrighted. The digital compilations and English translations used carry their own terms, and the compilation source is credited in the app alongside each collection.
Recitation#
Recitation audio is streamed and downloaded from public Quran audio archives. Copyright in a recitation rests with the reciter and the publisher of the recording. ZohaNur does not claim ownership of any recitation and does not sell audio.
Fonts and design#
Arabic typefaces are used under their published open font licences. The ZohaNur name, logotype, colour scheme and interface design are original work belonging to the developer.
Raising a claim#
If you own rights in material included in ZohaNur and believe it is used improperly, please write to [email protected] with:
- What material is involved and where it appears in the app.
- Evidence of your ownership or authority to act.
- What you would like done.
The response to a well-founded claim is removal, not argument. Material under credible dispute is withdrawn in the next release while the matter is examined. This is a charitable project with no commercial interest in anyone else's work.
