Sadaqah

Sadaqah is voluntary charity. Unlike zakat it has no threshold, no fixed rate, no due date, and no restricted list of recipients. It may be money, and it may not be — removing a hazard from a path, teaching something useful, or meeting someone with a good face are all described as sadaqah in the narrations.

Sadaqah jariyah#

Sadaqah jariyah is charity that continues to benefit people after the giver has died: a well that keeps giving water, knowledge that keeps being used, a tree that keeps bearing fruit.

When a person dies, his deeds come to an end except for three: a continuing charity, knowledge that is benefited from, and a righteous child who prays for him.

The tracker in the app#

The sadaqah tracker lets you record what you have given, so you can see your own consistency over time.

It is entirely private. Entries are stored on your device, are never transmitted, and are visible to no one but you. There is no sharing feature, no leaderboard, and no comparison with other users — those things would work directly against what sadaqah is for.

If you disclose your charitable expenditures, they are good; but if you conceal them and give them to the poor, it is better for you.

A note on this project#

This page is educational. ZohaNur is not a charity and does not collect sadaqah as an institution — it refuses zakat entirely, and anyone wishing to support the work does so as support for an independent developer, described as exactly that. If you are deciding where to give sadaqah, and you know of a family in need, give to them first. That is the correct order.
